[[This RP is for koyjama and maloliente, anyone else is welcome to read but please don't post. If you are interested in joining this RP, run it by either myself or malochan, and we will say aye or nay. But the answer will most likely be no unless you are willing to watch about three disks of an anime called The Twelve Kingdoms, upon which this anime is based. If you are still interested talk to us, and I'll lend you the anime.]] There is a land beyond our own, called the Twelve Kingdoms. In this place, people are born from fruit called Ranka, from a tree called the Riboku. Each of the Twelve Kingdoms must have a ruler, because if not dangerous youma begin to appear and terrorise the citizens. But rulers are not elected by the people, no. They are chosen by the most holy of beasts in all the Twelve Kingdoms, the kirin. Kirin are so pure in soul that the sight or smell of blood will make them weak, and they are kind in every respect. Kirin are born on Mount Ho, in the centre of the Twelve Kingdoms. Tentei, the god of the Twelve Kingdoms, sends the kirin to find the ruler of their respective kingdom. The Kirin of En will always find the King of En, and the King of En must be from the Kingdom of En originally. When the kirin finds their ruler, they bow down to them and pledge their unwavering allegiance to their throne. Because of the kirin's pure nature, they are incapable of bowing down to anyone but the ruler Tentei has decided for them. Once the ruler has been found, the kirin and the ruler return to Mount Ho and are granted their heavenly mission, and the ruler becomes immortal as the kirin is. Then the two return to their kingdom, and the ruler is free to govern their kingdom as they wish, but a ruler who does not rule justly will cause a 'shitsudo', a terrible disease which manifests in the kirin if the kingdom is badly ruled. This disease can only be cured if the ruler changes his or her ways, and if it is not cured the kirin will die, and the ruler will shortly after. This is the Twelve Kingdoms.

It is a legend, that thousands of years ago there was a thirteenth kingdom, the Kingdom of Shai. The story goes that the kingdom had been without a ruler for many decades, and the land was in disarray and the people scattered. Then the kirin of Shai was born on Mount Ho, and the citizens of Shai became hopeful. Many made the trip to Mount Ho to see if they were to be the next ruler, but the kirin could not find the destined ruler. He disappeared through a great storm, called a Shoku, into the other world and found the ruler in Wa, or Japan. They returned to their kingdom, and lingered there for a short while, calling all their people back to them. When the people had returned, Shai simply disappeared along with all its inhabitants. Where there had once been land, all there was was empty sea. It caused terror in the other Kingdoms, and the other rulers frantically tried to find out what had happened to the other kingdom, but it was lost forever. The land, its people, and its Queen and Kirin were gone. The legend says that the Kingdom of Shai had lifted into the air on the back of a giant crab, and it flew above the sea above the clouds. Occasionally the small country of Shai would reappear to trade with other kingdoms. It had become very small, and only had about ten thousand people, for many had died before the ruler returned, and many had refused to return to their original homeland when the ruler called for them. Except for the times Shai descended to trade, it could not be found by anyone, always lost above the clouds which no one else could reach.

Most of the myth is truth, and though only some of the rulers of the kingdoms remember, Shai still exists above the clouds, ruled by Shai-ou and her kirin, Shaiki. They have been floating above the clouds for thousands of years, only coming down occasionally. Their people eat the fish from the sea above the clouds, and because of this they are long lived. The Queen and the kirin have lived for all those years, and are very close now because of it.
This story takes place after the formal inauguration of the Queen of Kei, and the death of the King of Kou after he caused a Shitsudo. News has reached the Kingdom of Shai that a kirin has died in the kingdoms below, and the news troubles Shaiki very greatly because he worries that it may be the kirin of En who has died, a kirin whom he is very fond of. Because of this, the Queen of Shai agreed to visit the Kingdom of En to check. Meanwhile in En, the King of En and Rakushun, the half-beast man, tell tales to the new Queen of Kei about the legend of the Kingdom of Shai.

The King of En stared out the window lazily, sipping the delicate teacup in his hand. It was nice weather, the sun was warm and the air was fresh. He had his feet up on the windowsill as he looked out the castle wall at his kingdom. It always pleased him, how beautiful it was. Meanwhile, the new Queen of Kei sat on the couch opposite his, next to his own kirin, called Enki. Also sitting with them was the Hanjuu (half beast half man) Rakushun. He was vaguely aware that Rakushun was telling stories, and Enki had a rather amused look on his childish face. "I've never heard of the Kingdom of Shai and it isn't on any of the maps. What is it Rakushun?" Yoko, the Queen of Kei asked curiously, and Rakushun was only too happy to assist. "It is a mythical kingdom, your majesty, that floats above the sea above the clouds. According to the legends, the kingdom is ruled by a very wise Queen, who has been ruling for over a thousand years. No one knows if the kingdom is real though, because no one ever sees it." the large rat said brightly. King En just laughed loudly, and Yoko and Rakushun turned there heads curiously as he downed the whole cup of tea at once. A shudder ran up his spine as he pulled a comical grimace. "Oh she is real alright. A real witch too. I could never understand how her kirin survives having to be round her for so long, he is such a sweet kid. Nothing like her, that violent woman is mean as mean and crazy to boot. Poor Shaiki, he is much to gentle to survive round her-" as he was speaking, the door was thrown open and a tiny ball of navy blue material and long golden hair catapulted across the room, followed by a worried face of a minister at the door. The tiny object slammed into King En, pushing him to the floor and as their eyes could focus they saw what exactly it was. A small child, no doubt a kirin, its long shimmering gold hair was a dead give away. The tiny boy's blue eyes were drawn in angry lines as he held King En to the ground. "YOU BETTER NOT HAVE HURT ENKI OTHERWISE I'M GONNA SEND MY SHIIREI TO EAT YOU UP!" the child shouted in a deeply menacing, yet childish voice. Enki stood up abruptly, a worried yet laughing expression on his face. He raised a hand and grinned. "Don't worry! I'm fine Shaiki!" Enki laughed, and Shaiki looked up with a bright smile of his features. He grinned, but still didn't release King En though.

All of a sudden a second person stormed into the room, although taller and with brown hair. "I TOLD YOU DIDN'T I! I TOLD YOU HE WOULD BE FINE, BUT NOOO, YOU HAD TO COME RUNNING ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE KINGDOMS TO SEE!" The lady then pulled up the small kirin by tugging his long hair, and continued to pull it as she yelled at him honestly, this is the last time I listen to anything you say!" She turned to the King of En, suddenly smiling brightly, "hey, long time no see. I thought that you would have been dead by now!" she said, still pulling at the kirin's hair.

The tiny kirin froze, a look of terror on his face, as the other person appeared, and suddenly he was being forced to stand up, his tiny hands grasping at the roots of his hair as though to protect himself. "I'm sorry! It hurrrts! I'm sooorry!" he cried out. "I was just worried about- OWWWW! Enki!" he whimpered. The King of En slowly pushed himself into a sitting position, rubbing his neck where the kirin had been throttling him with a wry grin on his face. "Yeah, would have been if you didn't pull Shaiki off me too." he chuckled, and meanwhile Enki hurried over to the smaller kirin, still being held by his hair. "Are you okay Shaiki? Can you just quit it Shai-ou?" he asked first in a concerned voice then a kind of snappish tone. Shaiki didn't answer, concentrating on trying to keep his scalp on his head.

"Naa, it's fine Enki" shai-ou replied grinning, "It's just so fun! I mean, look at his expression!" she said, pointing to the large tears welling in Shaiki's eyes. "how are you by the way? she said, using one hand to ruffle his hair whilst still pulling Shaiki's hair with the other. "not hurt like this silly little grup here thought"

Shaiki whimpered, sniffling helplessly, and Enki frowned every so slightly before he shrugged. What happened between Shaiki and his mistress was none of his business really, but it never ceased to kind of bother him how rough Shai-ou was with Shaiki. "Fine. Still looking for Taiki. If you heard of a kirin's death it was Kourin, En is fine as usual. Oh! But there is a new ruler for Kei, please meet Yoko, the new Queen of Kei. Keiki is away in Wa, looking for Taiki at the moment, so she is staying with us." he said, gesturing to Yoko, who was looking more than a little confused at all this, and quite horrified at the treatment of the childish Shaiki. "How has your kingdom been?" asked Enki.

"Oh, it's been good... Shai-ou replied, letting go of Shaiki's hair and giving him a pat on the head, "how long since we last visited? But there's a new Queen of Kei!" Shai-ou stared intently at Yoko for a few momeents, a surprised Yoko staring back at her. Suddenly she ran at Yoko, picking her up in a hug and swinging her round, "Helloooooo! Nice to meet you! can't say I new the old King of Kei well, but I look forward getting to know you, you have good eyes! So, Yoko was it?" "Erm, yes, n-nice to meet you to. replied a slightly dizzy and confused Yoko.

Shaiki rubbed his head against Shai-ou's hand, a surprisingly affectionate gesture for the previous events. He scampered around, till he was next to Enki and grinned up at the older looking kirin brightly. He looked over to Yoko. "Woooow! A new Queen of Kei, very nice to meet you your majesty." he said warmly, padding over to tug on her sleeve slightly in an odd greeting. En-ou just shook his head, chuckling to himself. Shaiki's face abruptly turned serious. "You said it was Kourin who died? Kei is next to Kou, do you know what happened Queen Kei?" he asked in a slightly sad voice. He had not met Kourin, but it always made him sad when other kirins had to die because of their rulers.

"Ah, the King of Kou did some bad things, and so Kourin got shitsudo, and then, ah, she died" Yoko said, looking to En-ou for support, unsure of what to say. Was it ok to tell them all the details of it? And he looked so young, she felt that it would be wrong to tell him such horrible things. Shai-ou saw the glance, and sent En-ou a serious look of her own. Obviously there where a few more details. But then again, she'd never met the guy... "Soooo, now that we're here, what's happening? Care to fill me in on all the goss for the past few years?"[b/] She said, flinging herself down on one a couch. "Oh, perhaps I should introduce myself first. I'm Shai-ou, ruler of the unofficial thirteenth kingdom. And that teeny-tiny kirin over there is Shaiki."

Shaiki looked at Yoko, for a brief moment his unbelievable age showing in his eyes, until he pouted childishly. "I'm not that small Shai-ou!" he whined, but trotted over to her and jumped up on the couch next to her, wiggling to get comfortable. Enki just shook his head, he had never understood how affectionate Shaiki was. "I am Shaiki, kirin of the kingdom of Shai. It is an honour to meet you, your Majesty." he said sweetly and politely.

"The Thirteenth Kingdom is real? Where is it?" Yoko asked curiously.

"hah, don't be fooled by her" said En-ou with a laugh, "The thirteenth Kingdom is only ever in one place at a time, although it does travel around a bit. Normally it's up in the air, and doesn't come down to the 12 kingdoms often, which is why it's become such a myth."
"Fine then, just go and steal my thunder" said Shai-ou with a huff, crossing her arms sulkily, "I barely ever get to explain it to people, and when I do, you just go and do it before I can!" With a sigh, Shai-ou moved on quickly, eager to explain her kingdom to Yoko, "We do trading, moving from one place to the other and picking up and swapping stuff. We've got the best stuff from all over the kingdom."

Shaki smiled. "That's right, it is due to one of my Shirei, it carries our small kingdom on its back and we usually live above the sea above the clouds." he said warmly, before turning round in his seat to tug on Shai-ou's shirt. "Can she come see pleasssse?"

"hmm..." Shai-ou thought, cocking her head and eyeing Yoko, then looking down at the pleading eyes of shaiki. "Okay!" She said, grinning hugely and leaping up from the couch, "you coming?" she said to En-ou and Enki.

Shaiki threw his arms around Shaiou's neck joyfully. "Thankyou your Majesty!" he cried, smiling hugely. Yoko was already standing, an excited curious look in her eye, and En-ou and Enki just nodded, standing and following. Shaiki suddenly fell very quiet, and whispered something in Shaiou's ear. "Um... piggy-back?

Shai-ou laughed, giving Shaiki's hair a light tweak, "Ok you rascal, but hold on tight, I'm gonna run at full speed now that I don't have to worry about you falling behind on those tiny little legs of yours!"

Shaiki giggled, grabbing onto her back and sitting there, light as a feather. Yoko looked at this, and couldn't help but be very shocked. She then chuckled to herself, she could hardly imagine Enki or Keiki asking for a piggy back. Shaiki was very cute. She quickly adjusted her sword so she could run, and En-ou quickly attatched his sword to his belt. "To Shai! Huray!" Shaki sang.

Shai-ou ran swiftly, Shaiki clinging to her back as she explained Shai to Yoko. "It's way better than any of the other Kingdoms... especially En." she said, shooting a sly glance at En-ou.
Shaiki giggled as they reached the open air, pointing with one hand to a huge seemingly floating mountain. "That is Shai! It can go wherever we want; mostly we stay above the Sky Sea though." he said, grinning as though proud of himself for some reason. Yoko's eyes nearly popped out of her head as she saw what Shaiki pointed to. She was mute for a moment, before she began to stutter. "How can a mountain... fly?"
Shai-ou grinned, "that's no mountain!" "huh" was all Yoko had time to say before huge claws came out of the sides of the 'mountain', sweeping them up. Yoko screamed for a brief moment, before Shai-ou began to laugh. "Don't worry! This is Shai!"
