the 46th Hunger Games are about to begin.
Basically the Hunger Games are a test to be the last one standing. There are twelve districts, and two 'tributes' are chosen from each district for each game, one male, one female. I'm not bothered to explain this all, if you haven't read the book 'the Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins, go out and read it before you join.
Here are the currently available spots. They do not all have to be filled, but if you want to be a part of this role-play you have to take one of these spots first. (For specifications see below)
District 1: male and Saffron Trithe District 2: male and Lienna Hyght District 3: Jiff Recks and Sezealia 'Zea' Wyle District 4: Arum Gertner and Reeta Ipes District 5: male and female District 6: male and female District 7: Oak Woodriff and Erina Brakken District 8: male and female District 9: male and female District 10: male and female District 11: male and Jeany Paaker District 12: male and female
Characters
each player is permitted to have one contestant and one 'other' character (who could be a mentor, stylist or hostess like Effie Trinket)
in the spirit of the Hunger Games all names must be created (eg Katniss) or adapted (eg Hamish/Haymitch, Peter/Peeta)
once the story enters the arena only the contestants will be used
each contestant will have a number, and every week the game creator will roll the dice (with witnesses) to determine who will perish next. Even if we do not fill all twenty-four places (because that is unlikely) the characters from the unused districts will still be named and count as NPCs who do not possess any dialogue, they will still have numbers and they can die at the hand of any player.
It would be helpful if we had characters who came from the same district so that we can begin with some interaction.
Here is the profile:
Full Name: Age: Gender: District: Special Skill: Who Are They Leaving Behind? Bio:
I have made it an earlier game specifically so that we do not have any of the characters from the books.
EDIT! Everyone can have two tributes

((does this mean that any tribute from district 12 would have to die unless they play Haymitch, Katniss or Peeta? or would it still be up to the rolling of the dice?))

((I'm thinking that it would be up to the rolling of the dice, and if district 12 keeps on a-winning... we'll rig the rolling of the dice))

((geez, you guys sure are enthusiastic...))
Oak Woodriff - District 7 - Male Early morning sunlight streams under the cloth covering the window above my bed, rudely awakening me. I groan, and try to turn so that the light does not bother me, but it is in just the wrong spot. I feel like it's somehow mocking my feeble attempts to go back to sleep.
After about ten minutes it no longer matters, because everyone else is awake and clamouring about the house, creating as much noise as a sawmill. Soon breakfast is on the table, and I reluctantly get up, because I know that if I don't, there will be no food left for me.
"Good afternoon," my mother says sarcastically as I walk into the kitchen where her, my father and my brother Pine are eating.
"Afternoon," I reply, taking a seat at the table and helping myself to the food.
While I am eating, I glance over at the newspaper that my father is reading. The front page headline grabs my eye: COUNTDOWN BEGINS. I chew irritably. Like I need a reminder of that. I hate the Hunger Games with a passion. I've loathed them ever since my close friend Samwell was a tribute two years ago, and never returned. I hold every person in the Capitol responsible for his murder.
But fortunately I don't have time to think dark thoughts for very long. As soon as i finish my plate, my father claps me on the shoulder.
"You'd better get to work," he says. "All that wood that I got yesterday needs to be chopped up and stacked ready for winter."
"But Dad," I groan, "there's tonnes of it."
"All the more reason to get a move on, especially if you want to see Mirtyl this afternoon."
Blackmail! I start to protest, but he cuts me off. "Better get chopping," he says. "Time's ticking away." He looks at the clock. "And I'm afraid it's time for us to leave too." He kisses my mother goodbye, then leaves with Pine for the sawmill. The demand for lumber at the moment is very high, and the mill is forced to operate on Saturdays to keep up with it all. My mother looks disapprovingly after her husband and eldest son, but there's nothing she can do about them having to work overtime. That's another reason I hate the Capitol.
I sigh one more time, then go outside to tackle that huge pile of wood. I'm reasonably strong, having wielded an axe all my life, but still it's hard work. However the thought of being able to see Mirtyl this afternoon enables me to keep going. By midmorning, I'm three-quarters of the way through the wood, when my mother comes out with a mug of pine needle tea for me and a bite to eat. It's a welcome respite, and we sit on the woodpile together and talk about the weather.
Soon my break is over, and I return to chopping wood. Once it has all been chopped, I return inside for another break, and to shelter from the sun which has gotten quite hot by this time. What a way to spend the weekend, I think. Chopping wood. Ah well, the afternoon will be good. I go back outside and this time stack up the wood I have just chopped. There's enough there to last at least a month. I stand back and look at the neat pile for a few seconds, feeling quite proud of myself, then go inside to help prepare lunch. There's no meat - my family cannot afford to have meat every day, but we manage to have a nice meal of vegetables, katniss roots from our pond and nuts from the trees around our house.
My father and Pine return just in time for lunch. They, at least, are lucky enough to live within easy walking distance of the sawmill. "Nice job with the wood, Oak," my father says as he walks in. "It's amazing what a man can do if he has the motivation."
After the meal Pine and my father help clean up, then have to leave again for the afternoon shift. Pine gives me a sly wink as he walks out. "Enjoy your afternoon."
I smile at the thought. Mirtyl. She's been in my mind all day, and now, at last, I am free to go see her. I say goodbye to my mother, then walk out into the street, barely able to contain my happiness. All thoughts of the Hunger Games have long since been banished from my mind. We've been going out for nearly a year now, but my heart still leaps every time I see her. This will be a great afternoon.
I walk down the street, past the simple, low wooden houses that make up Milltown. It's one of the larger District 7 villages, as the sawmill employs many people. Nearly all the men in the village work there.
I see Mirtyl sittng out the front of her house, waiting for me. I call out to her, and before I know it we're both wrapped in each others' arms. After a couple of seconds we let go, and I walk up to the door to say hello to Mirtyl's mother. I greet her politely, then Mirtyl and I are free until dinner time. I look into her bright blue eyes and, as always, am blown away by how beautiful she is. I put my arm around her and we stroll down the road together, chatting idly about little things. We walk out of town and head for a lovely spot next to the river. It's quite close to the electrified boundary fence, but you can't see it through the trees, and the sound of the water drowns out the hum of electricity.
We sit on the grass together with our backs against a low rise, watching the river flow, and talking animatedly. Apart from being dazzlingly beautiful, Mirtyl is also one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. You might say I'm biased, but I assure you it's the truth. After a while she rests her head on my shoulder, and I stroke her long, light brown hair, simply overjoyed at being with her.
We sit like this for a while, soaking up each others' company, then Mirtyl says, "So, one week to the Hunger Games."
"Yes," I reply, somewhat bitterly. "Time for twenty-three more kids to be murdered by the Capitol."
She sighs sadly. "I wish there was something we could do." Mirtyl thinks much the same of the Hunger Games as I do. Samwell was her friend too.
"Yeah," I reply, then after a few minutes add, "How sick can people get? Watching people kill each other for entertainment[question mark]" I jab a stick angrily into the ground. "Filthy Capitol bastards."
"Ah well," she says. "There's nothing we can do about it. Let's not ruin a wonderful afternoon. Sorry I brought it up."
I smile again. Mirtyl can turn any situation into a good one. "That's OK," I say. "Hey, what do you think of that new timber they've been introducing?"

[[nice work jam, the romance was just a cringe-worthy as when suzanne collins writes it XD]]
Reeta Ipes - District Four - Female
I lay, half-awake, in my bed with the sun on my face. The heat is uncomfortable, but I don't get up. I don't want to yet.
I can hear my mother downstairs, cooking I think. I have no great admiration for my mother, she is a coward. She is pretty enough, and good at all the housework chores and such, but I find her nothing but a nuisance, an embarrassment. She was picked at the Reaping the same year as my father, but she let someone volunteer for her. She is such a coward, it makes me sick. My father on the other hand was picked, went to the Games and won as any brave District Four citizen should. I've watched reruns of his games over and over.
I finally drag myself out of bed and take a shower. I run the water freezing cold, even though unlike most of my neighbours our house has reliable hot water. It is too hot outside for a hot shower anyway.
I dress, in my usual clothes, shorts, a short-sleeved top and some slip-on flat shoes. As I walk down the stairs and head for the front door, I hear my mother call my name. I pretend I don't hear, and slip outside.
The sun is already high in the sky, which is a remarkable shade of blue which some would say is pretty but I myself would call normal. There is a slight breeze coming in from the sea, which cools things down a little, but it is still hot. I walk through the Victor's Village, which is pretty much silent. There are ten houses here, seven of which are occupied if you count my family.
Bass, who won just two years ago lives directly next to me. He is nineteen now, and he is one of the few Victors who I like. He promised to go fishing with me this morning, on his little boat called the Merman. I love going out on his boat, it is always quiet and he is excellent company. He is very carefree, and he jokes a lot, but sometimes I catch him just staring at nothing in particular for ages with this slightly bemused expression on his face. Not that that is wierd, most of the Victors do that occasionally.
Mags lives on the other side of us, she won ages ago, at least fifteen years ago. She is beautiful, with smooth skin, tanned like most of District Four's residents, with sparkly eyes. She comes fishing with me and Bass sometimes, she can make a fish hook out of anything. I don't know if it is just practice, but I can't make them as well as she does no matter how hard I try. She is kind of like an aunt to me, though I often wish she were my mother. She is my smarter and stronger and braver than my mother.
There are other Victors of course, but some of them are useless. Moran spends all his time at the Training Centre, picking up young girls to take home to his bed. He's tried it on me before, but Bass punched him right in the nose for even trying. He leaves me well alone now, and I've got no problem with that. Sali just stays inside her house, baking all day. She makes delicious bread, but I think she isn't all there in the head. Listol is useless, he just drinks all day. But that's just the way it is.
I meet Bass where we always meet, at the beach edge of town, in the little cove where he keeps the Merman. I help him get her ready, and it isn't long before we are out on the sea. Bass is sitting on the edge of the Merman, a look of contented concentration on his face as he waits for a bite. I bring a loaf of bread, baked by Sali, and sit down next to him.
"It is almost the Reaping! I can't wait Bass, what if I get chosen? I might get to go to the Games! I might get a chance to be a Victor!" I can't help the rising tone of excitement in my voice.
For a second he looks deeply worried as he turns to study my face, but the expression quickly morphs into a wide smile as he pulls in a sparkling fish. Somehow though, he seems a little distant, and he scales and guts the fish with unusual concentration. As sparkling scales fall from his knife to the deck of the ship he says one thing in a quiet voice, "You just might." and somehow when he says it, it doesn't sound like he thinks it is a good thing.
I brush this thought away, as it is ridiculous. He is a Victor, he can't possibly dislike the Games. But I can't shake the feeling, because as we eat he is much more quiet than usual.

[[I'll write my other character's post in a second, but I just wanted to say something. Jam, don't you think it is a bit disturbing to write so much about a character, think about them in depth, and then consider the fact they are probably going to die? I was thinking about that as I wrote Reeta, it just seems very wierd o.o ]]

((yeah, i've been thinking about how ironic several of the things in my post are, considering what i know is gonna happen. it's gonna be hard writing the goodbye scene.
it'd probably be best if we used some way of differentiating between the characters, like different fonts. it'd be mightily confusing with everyone in first-person, present tense otherwise. maybe even use different colours for different Districts))
